UK Renewable Packaging Group
The UK Renewable Packaging Group is a sub group of The Renewable Polymers Thematic Working Group (TWG) designed to encourage the development of more sustainable materials and packaging.
The UK Renewable Packaging Group (UK RPG) Mission Statement;
- To encourage the development of more sustainable* materials and packaging.
- To promote the UK Certification scheme for compostable packaging materials that meet the harmonised EU standard for biodegradability/compostability. BS EN 13432:2000.
- To work with national and local government to develop a supportive regulatory framework for the waste management of biodegradable and sustainable materials through; Aerobic (e.g. home composting) and Anaerobic Digestion, energy from waste, and recycling.
- To raise awareness and promote the benefits offered by more sustainable materials and packaging to key players in the supply chain which include Local Authorities, The General Public, Manufacturers, Supermarkets and Waste Management Companies.
- To encourage the reduction in the use of non-renewable materials and packaging and promote the appropriate material recovery management (e.g. recycling and energy from waste) of these materials.
*More sustainable is defined as reducing environmental impact whilst maintaining fitness for purpose and cost effectiveness.
Dr. John Williams is the NNFCC Sector Manager responsble for co-ordinating this Group.
