Life Cycle Assessment of Vegetable Oils and BioSNG

PowerBusinesses will increasingly be judged on their ability to manage supply chains sustainably. Transparent reporting of whole life cycle greenhouse gas emissions from crop cultivation to end-use is an essential for this purpose.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a way of measuring the environmental, social or economic impact of a specific supply chain or product.

The technique measures the impact of all processes from cradle-to-grave – this includes processing the raw material, manufacturing, distribution and end-of-life use.

Approach

NNFCC help companies access LCA information and interpret their results. We have been involved with a number of key LCA projects in the bioenergy sector, including an analysis of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with thermochemical manufacturing of renewable gas and a comparison of the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of refined vegetable oils.
