Supermarkets
Supermarkets could be an extremely powerful weapon against climate change: they supply millions of people with fuel, packaging, disposables, household supplies and food.
They are large businesses and consume a lot of heat, fuel and power. So changes made by supermarkets can make a big difference.
A mixture of consumer pressure, industry innovation and Government support is required to change supermarkets for the better.
Supermarkets are starting to stock more renewable products, use renewable packaging and sell biofuels. Examples of environmentally-friendly packaging include recycled paper and cardboard, compostable polymers or no packaging at all.
