Woodfuel and Boilers
Biomass is being used in homes across the country to produce renewable heat and electricity. 'Biomass' can come from a variety of sources, including energy crops, wood and materials we might class as waste today.
On a domestic scale the most commonly used form of biomass is wood. Wood-burning stoves and boilers are fuelled by logs or pellets and can provide heat and hot water to your home - a boiler guide is available here. On a larger scale wood is also being used to produce electricity.
Burning wood for heat and power is better for the environment than using fossil fuels because we can grow more trees to replace those we use; making wood a low carbon fuel.
