Board of Directors
NNFCC is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. The Board of Directors is responsible for managing the business and determining NNFCC's policy and strategic direction, with executive functions being delegated to the Chief Executive Officer.
The members of the NNFCC Board of Directors are;
Chair; Pamela Castle OBE
Pamela Castle joined NNFCC's Board of Directors in October 2004 and became NNFCC Chair in September 2009.
Pamela is the former Chair of the Environmental Law Foundation and is involved in a number of organisations concerned with Climate Change and other environmental issues. She is former chair of the Mayor of London’s Sustainable Development Commission at the Greater London Authority, and the Business and Community Safety Forum at the Department for Communities and Local Government. She is also a former Partner and Head of Environmental Law at the London law firm CMS Cameron McKenna.
James Wilson
James Wilson joined NNFCC's Board of Directors in Summer 2007.
Formerly Group Development Director for David Wilson Homes, now Managing Director to Davidsons Developments and Chairman of Go Plant. James’s career in the house building and property development sector has been involved with championing innovation and design and he has completed a number of consumer research projects in the field of house building. In 2006 James was appointed a design champion for the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment in recognition for his efforts to improve design standards. In 2009, he was appointed Industry Design Ambassador to North West Leicestershire District Council.
Professor Michael Roberts CBE
Michael Roberts was appointed as a Director of NNFCC in 2008 following a career in senior science management roles in the Research Councils and Defra.
In his most recent position as Chief Executive of Defra’s Central Science Laboratory, he co-ordinated strategic research in support of government policies on sustainable food chains, safe food and a healthy environment. This included the management of research on non-food crops and policy support to Defra and the European Commission. Michael is a Fellow of the Institute of Biology and is currently providing support to government departments on food chain and environmental issues.
Paul Temple
Former Vice President of the NFU, Paul Temple joined NNFCC’s Board of Directors in September 2009.
Paul is a tenant farmer in a family partnership, currently farming 330 ha of mixed arable and cattle. He is Non-executive Director of Farmway - the UK’s largest northern farming co-operative. Paul is also Vice Chairman of the Oilseeds & Protein Group and former Chairman of the COPA COGECA Cereals Group for European farming organisations. Paul is one of the founding members of the Farmers Biotech Forum (FBF) and a member of Climate Change Forum, sitting on the BBSRC Sustainable Agriculture Panel.
Chris Pollock CBE
Chris Pollock joined NNFCC's Board of Directors in 2010, following a distinguished career in agricultural science.
Chris read botany at Cambridge and has a PhD and DSc from Birmingham. He was Director of the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research in Aberystwyth from 1993-2007. Chris has also chaired numerous advisory groups and panels, and recently completed a one-year post as Chief Scientific Advisor to the First Minister in Wales. Chris is a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies and of the Institute of Biology, a winner of the British Grassland Society Award and was made a CBE in 2002 for services to the environment.
Andrew Perrins
Andrew retired in 2010 from the Department of Energy and Climate Change, where he was head of the Bioenergy team in the Office for Renewable Energy Deployment.
Andrew had previously worked in Defra where he was instrumental in setting up NNFCC in 2003 and served thereafter as the Government representative on the NNFCC Board.
Stella Matakidou
Stella Matakidou currently represents the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) on NNFCC’s Board of Directors.
Stella is Head of Policy in the Land-based Renewables Team at DECC.
