Background
In 2010, the Environmental Audit Committee linked poor air quality to severe health problems such as respiratory illness, heart disease and asthma and to environmental degradation. In towns and cities, 70 per cent air pollution is caused by transport. The end of 2011 is the extended deadline given to London by the European Commission to curb particulates (PM10) to levels set by the 2008 Air Quality directive and to avoid a substantial fine.
Speakers
Issues: Isabel Dedring, Deputy Mayor for Transport, London
Law and regulation: Professor Robert Lee, Cardiff University
Policy: Zac Goldsmith MP
