Planning Support

Anaerobic Digestion Case StudyGaining planning permission for a new anaerobic digester is challenging, this is why we are happy to offer our expertise and experience in making the process as easy and straightforward as possible.

A farming business wanted to apply for planning permission to build a new anaerobic digestion plant in the North East of England.

The proposal was for a plant that would treat both agricultural and food waste, resulting in the production of electricity that would go to the National Grid and a nutrient-rich fertiliser that would be applied to the land.

The client approached NNFCC to help support them during the final stage of the planning process for the new plant.

Approach

NNFCC attended the planning committee meeting as an independent expert on anaerobic digestion.

Results

We gave evidence at the committee meeting, where planning permission was approved.

Our authority and independence was recognised and it was acknowledged that permission to build the plant may have been rejected had we not been present.

The plant is now awaiting finding financiers before construction begins.
