Summary
Succinic acid is a versatile, bulk chemical with a global production rate of between 30,000 and 50,000 tonnes per year. The market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 18.7 per cent from 2011 to 2016.
Current capacity for bio-based succinic acid is around 10,000 tonnes but this is set to expand rapidly over the forthcoming years, as companies look for more sustainable alternatives to succinic acid made from petrochemical sources.
This factsheet covers the current applications, potential market growth, production route from biomass, environmental sustainability benefits and manufacturers of succinic acid.
