Summary

This industry-leading tool is designed to help anaerobic digestion developers in the UK assess the viability of different technology or feedstock options. It also allows current operators to optimise production processes to get the most out of their digester.

The AD Cost Calculator provides users with an interactive spreadsheet, which can be modified according to feedstock, technology and your budget to demonstrate the physical requirements, outputs and likely financial returns of your digester.

This includes a detailed breakdown of projected costs and rates of return, based on the latest support available from the Renewables Obligation (RO), Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs) scheme and the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

Default and suggested values are provided at most stages of the tool. They can be overwritten with specific data. Default values assume wet, mesophilic, continuous flow but other technologies can be used by changing the retention period and output data.

The Business Edition of the calculator also includes a number of additional features, including a biomethane injection comparator and a monthly project management schedule so the tool can be used in business planning.

Calculator Updated: April 2013. Version 2.6 has been updated to reflect the Retail Price Index (RPI)-linked changes to the FITs and RHI, applicable from April 2013.
