Shopping for Renewables

The NNFCC 'Shopping for Renewables' guide helps make people's shopping more sustainable, by identifying products made from renewable materials.

Our guide lists a range of renewable products, from shopping bags to cleaning materials. We also have advice on changes you can make at work, at home, and in everyday life to help reduce your impact on the environment.

Why should you buy things made out of renewable materials?

Products made out of renewable materials can produce lower carbon emissions and help prevent global warming. They also support farmers and create rural jobs, are natural, non-toxic and typically biodegradable.

How can you tell if something is renewable?

There are a few different schemes for labelling products that are renewable and environmentally friendly, such as the compostable packaging and biolubricants labels. Defra has also produced a guide to green shopping labels.
