Accessibility
NNFCC is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to everyone. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the accessibility of this site please contact us, as we are continually striving to improve the experience for all visitors.
If you find you are unable to access particular information or services on this website, our Helpline will be able to support you. They can be contacted by telephone or email.
You can increase the font size, or adjust the colour of text and backgrounds using controls in your web browser. In Internet Explorer, you can change font size under the ‘view’ menu, and colours can be changed using ‘Internet Options’ under the ‘tools’ menu.
Navigation shortcuts
All pages start with a short menu, which allows you to jump directly to the most important parts of the page, including main content and navigation. Sighted people who use the keyboard to navigate will see these links appear on screen when using the Tab key to navigate through the page. When keyboard-navigating, the element currently in focus is clearly highlighted.
We do not use access keys, in order to avoid conflicting with other keyboard shortcuts.
Semantic markup
All pages follow a logical document structure. Screen reader users can get around pages quickly by moving between headings. Navigation menus are marked up as lists. We use semantically meaningful markup wherever possible and no presentational markup. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is used to control layout and presentation.
Text size
We use relative font size units that can be resized in any browser. We avoid miniscule fonts and consider 12px a minimum for body text.
We also provide a visual tool to change the text size.
Images
All content images include descriptive alt text. Purely decorative images have empty alt text attributes.
Colour
In our designs, we do not rely on colour alone to convey important information to the user. All designs are evaluated to ensure they work with various degrees of colour blindness and follow accepted guidelines on colour contrast between foreground and background.
Forms
Forms have their labels explicitly associated with their controls.
Links
All link text is written to make sense out of context, or else have explanatory title attributes.
JavaScript
Dynamic HTML is used sparingly and designed according to the principle of graceful degradation. If JavaScript is unavailable, all website content will remain accessible.
Standards compliance
We strive to comply with the W3C WAI's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and consider WAI-A conformance a minimum requirement.
All page templates we deliver validate to XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
