Foreword
Repeated studies have shown that consumers show a
preference for biobased products when they are available, particularly if the
environmental benefits of using them are clear. In many cases, (money aside)
the limiting factor that prevents biobased market penetration is a lack of
public awareness to the existence of these products (although this is,
naturally, becoming less of a problem over time). As such, it can only be
beneficial to the biobased products markets when they become part of a
high-profile event. Last year, we reported that the official World Cup
footballs contained biobased synthetic rubber, and once again it is a sporting
event that has set the stage for biobased products to shine… only this time,
the biobased product is the stage!
The 2020 Summer Olympics, due to be held in Tokyo, are being organised with the
goal of being the first ever carbon-neutral modern Olympics. Among the measures
introduced to aid with this, the field hockey events are due to be........
