Foreword
The cosmetic industry is rallying to offer sustainable alternatives to
fossil-based conventional products, both in terms of packaging and of cosmetic
products themselves. Chanel is launching new bottles for its LES EAUX DE CHANEL
fragrance. The bottles are topped with biobased caps made from Sulapac®
biobased material, a material created by Finnish-based startup Sulapac and
composed of 91% biobased materials obtained from renewable resources and FSC™
certified wood chips. In addition, the glass bottles are thinner, therefore
requiring less raw materials and optimising transport. Finally, the cardboard
used for the packaging was transformed into clean, simple outer packaging whose
lack of lamination or glossy coating makes it easier to recycle.
Isobutene is an organic hydrocarbon with high industrial value across a
broad range of sectors. Global Bioenergy is a French company that has developed
a unique fermentation process which transforms plant-derived materials into
isobutene for use in the cosmetics industry. In June 2021, Global Bioenergies
