Foreword

Since 2010 when Braskem’s polyethylene plant was first commissioned, Braskem has been well established as a world leader in biobased plastic production. Their product ‘I’m Green’ is made from sugarcane ethanol – a renewable resource. It has the same properties, performance and versatility as its fossil-derived counterpart, making it an attractive replacement. The number of applications is ever increasing, with this month seeing it used as packaging in dog food for American company Earth Animal. Papier-Mettler, a packaging supplier, have also started to include I’m Green in their product catalogue. Braskem have since 2010 been expanding on their portfolio. Their latest product, ‘I’m Green EVO’ combines vinyl acetate monomer with ethylene during the polymerisation. It is expected to supply the footwear, automotive and transportation markets. Brazil-based Tnin Shoes have kicked things off by incorporating I’m Green EVO into their children’s footwear range alongside recycled PET and water-based glue.
