Foreword
Sporting events often have an incredibly social and economic impact on society,
at a local and international scale. In recent years, the environmental impact
of the sporting industry, notably through the mass production of equipment and
infrastructure, has occupied a prominent place on international media
platforms. The sporting industry is attempting to tackle these environmental
issues which is leading to a number of biobased products recently making their
way into high-tech equipment for athletes at the highest level, as well as in
everyday sport attire for beginners and casual joggers and gymgoers.
Covestro and Australia-based Advanced Polymer Technology (APT) have
partnered to develop the Poligras Tokyo GT field hockey surface for the 2021
Olympic Games. The polyol binder which sits right below the surface of the
