Foreword
In 2020, and for the very first time in UK’s
industrial’s history, renewable energy generation overtook fossil-derived
energy generation. The UK Government released figures showing that 43.1% of the
total energy generated was produced from renewable sources, against 37.7%
having been generated by fossil resources, a new record low. In addition, in
2020 renewables accounted for 13.6% of total energy consumption, compared to
11.7% in 2019. These latest encouraging trends are likely to continue, and even
improve, as UK policies go further in their support for renewable energy
generation.
