Foreword

In 2020, and for the very first time in UK’s industrial’s history, renewable energy generation overtook fossil-derived energy generation. The UK Government released figures showing that 43.1% of the total energy generated was produced from renewable sources, against 37.7% having been generated by fossil resources, a new record low. In addition, in 2020 renewables accounted for 13.6% of total energy consumption, compared to 11.7% in 2019. These latest encouraging trends are likely to continue, and even improve, as UK policies go further in their support for renewable energy generation.

Ahead of the start of the new Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS), which is due to launch later this year to replace the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) for biomethane injection projects, the Government has released a Budget Management Notice which provides details of the scheme’s intended Tariff Guarantee...
