Foreword
In 2020 the share of electricity generated in
the UK originating from renewable sources reached more than 40%, with a peak at
47% in the first quarter of the year. Unfortunately, renewable capacity growth
slowed down, registering 2.6% growth compared to 4.9% in 2019. Electricity
produced from bioenergy increased by 3.9%, making bioenergy the third greatest
generator behind offshore wind and solar power. Overall, renewables are
continuing to be on an upwards trend despite the current pandemic, proving the
robustness of the renewable market and taking the country closer to its 2050
net zero target.
