Foreword
Biomass power, and indeed
renewables in general, have increasingly been delivering the UK’s electricity.
Drax have revealed that as of the 26th May, the proportion of the UK’s
electricity generated from biomass broke the previous record, which was at 13%
but it now rests at 13.79%. In addition, the UK is setting a new record for the
longest period without coal powered electricity. The last coal generator came
off the system at midnight on 9th April, and currently (at time of writing)
hasn’t yet been used, making a full two months without coal power. Although the
Coronavirus will be in part responsible due to a reduced energy demand, it does
demonstrate the ongoing transformation of power generation from fossil fuels to
alternative low carbon and renewable sources of power in the UK, which includes
biomass, solar, wind and nuclear.
Denmark is already a world leader in wind power for electricity
generation, but biomass power in Denmark has recently been..........
