Foreword 

There is plenty of news this month from Asia, particularly India. Currently, India has the third-highest level of crude oil imports in the world, costing the country over 70 billion US dollars per year. India’s government has now decided that the solution to this problem lies in biofuels. To specifically tackle the issue, the government has pledged to invest in 12 biorefineries, looking to up the nation’s bioethanol production to 4.5 billion litres annually. This is particularly significant as income levels are rising in India, leading to more citizens opting to drive cars and increasing petrol consumption. The government hopes that by making the switch to biofuels, petrol consumption will decrease, with the added effect of reducing the country’s carbon emissions. India’s target is to reach......
