Foreword
Agriculture has
the potential to provide a wide range of materials to the bioeconomy, providing
raw materials for biobased products and chemicals or by providing energy. Food
crops are very important and this has been underlined by the impact of war in
Ukraine on global food prices. However, even without replacing vital food crops
it is still possible to capitalise from agriculture and mitigate the effects of
climate change. This can be accomplished using a range of measures including, maximising
yields on under-utilised land, increasing efficiencies through scale or
technology, or targeting under-valued residues.
