Biomass feedstocks will play an instrumental role in the global transition away from fossil resources. New exciting technologies, biobased products and biofuels are constantly being developed, bringing the world closer to its dreams of a decarbonised economy. Although biomass feedstocks are renewable commodities, sustainability remains a challenge that needs to be assessed and taken up from the start. Finding a balance between biomass feedstock use and sustainable practices is now at the heart of multiple scientific and political agendas.
