Foreword

In this month’s foreword we delve into the realm of biobased and biodegradable consumer products, highlighting pioneering commercial advancements that not only promote sustainability but also transform our daily interactions with ordinary fast-moving consumer goods.

USA-based Natural Grocershas introduced four new single-use Organic Coffee Pods, designed to be eco-conscious and compatible with most single-serve coffee makers. The pods are Certified Organic and Certified Fair Trade, reflecting the company's commitment to responsible practices. The pods are made with plant-based mesh filters and paper lids and are certified compostable at local industrial composting facilities. They are packaged in 100% recycled paperboard boxes with 30% post-consumer waste.

Israeli materials science company Balena and American New.ve have partnered to create a fully compostable sneakers made entirely from 100% circular materials. This innovative footwear concept aims to address the environmental cost of footwear waste, resulting from the over 20 billion pairs of shoes produced annually.
