Foreword
The inherent way of reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to
greener products when it comes to the bioeconomy, is to utilise
non-fossil-based, alternative feedstocks. However, as with bioenergy, carbon
capture and sequestration (CCS) is a potential option to implement to further
enhance the sustainability credentials of the biofuels sector. Within the EU
Energy Roadmap 2050, it has been recognised that CCS in combination with
biomass could deliver ‘carbon negative’ solutions.
In order to bring
these biofuel carbon capture solutions to fruition, funding is required. The UK
Government has recently provided financial support for 15 projects relating to
greenhouse gas removal from the atmosphere, totalling an investment of £54
million. Of this, just under £5 million was received by Advanced Biofuel
Solutions in Swindon...
