Things have taken an
unprecedented turn in the past month. The coronavirus is having a huge impact on
our lives with the UK recently joining multiple other countries on lockdown. Regardless,
there is still plenty of bioeconomy news from this month! Some in the biofuel
industry have turned their attention to helping out in this difficult time. There
have been several examples of fuel ethanol and alcoholic beverage producers alike
having shifted production to ethanol-based hand sanitisers, after seeing global
shortages. Californian renewable fuels company Aemetis for example, initiated
shipments of alcohol for use in hand sanitiser production, following the US
government relaxing regulations on alcohol fuel permits.
Elsewhere, Neste, a
global player in renewable diesel, has had to delay some crucial work at its
refinery in Porvoo, Finland. For the next couple of months from April until
