Foreword
Late last month Defra published a draft of
their Waste Management Plan (‘the Plan’) for England which highlights the
current waste management regulations in place in the country, along with an
environmental assessment of said policies. The environmental assessment found
that the Plan would have positive effects across most of the topics covered,
attesting of the economic and socio-economic benefits associated with
sustainable waste management. A few negative aspects were also identified relating
to the building and operation of new waste management plants, and establishing
new collection services.
As the economic viability
of sustainable practices comes to the forefront, driving the green industrial
transition, there is still fine tuning to be done. The Environmental Agency
