We hope you’ve all had a lovely
break over the Christmas holidays and New Year – meanwhile the bioeconomy has
remained busy! The plans for a European Green Deal have been unveiled,
promising to develop a regulatory framework for biodegradable and biobased
plastics, among other initiatives. It also includes a legally binding target of
reducing EU emissions to net zero by 2050, a big step in the right direction. As
we move into a new decade with a newly elected government in the UK, we hope to
see the bioeconomy receive ample support here too. Plastic and packaging
have been key topics for the bioeconomy of late, with multiple drivers for
